Private companies have received over 70 million euros from the state to run 7 different Direct Provision centres since 2000. These companies have made profits of over 2.5 million euros. The 5 centres still in operation are:
Glenvera Hotel, Cork City;
Ashbourne House, Glounthane;
Clonakilty House, Clonakilty,
Ursuline Convent/Birchwood, Waterford;
Mount Trenchard, County Limerick.
The centres run by those Direct Provision profiteers have been criticised for being overcrowded , freezing and for being in breach of fire regulations. The worst centre Mount Trenchard in County Limerick has been described as the Guantanomo Bay of Direct Provision.
24/25 South Mall is the registered address of Barlow Properties, Stampool Investments, Bideau Limited and Baycaster Limited.
Bideau Limited, Stampool Investments and Baycaster Limited are owned by Alan Hyde and Yvonne Murphy and Mr Hyde and Tadgh Murphy are directors of these companies
These companies have been used as vehicles to run the Glenvera, Ursuline/Birchwood and Mount Trenchard Centres.
