Boycott actions over Halloween Weekend by Derry Anti War Coalition

Activists from the Derry Anti War Coalition will take to the streets on Halloween to make shoppers aware of the ethical consequences of buying goods manufactured or produced in Israel. The DAWC have actively supported the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against what they describe as an Apartheid state.

DAWC activist Shaun Harkin explains why; “We have seen over 50 killings of Palestinians in the last few weeks. The illegal settlements continue at pace with the full support of a vicious right-wing government. Global powers are complicit in Israel’s brutal assaults on Palestinians. There has been a deliberate clampdown on Palestinian daily life in the West Bank. Gaza remains a locked down, bombed out prison camp, with no way in or out for most Palestinians. By boycotting Israeli goods and companies who support Israel, shoppers in Derry can show solidarity with the Palestinian people and know that their hard earned cash is not going towards supporting a brutal and illegal occupation.”

Activists from the group, along with fellow supporters of the Palestinian cause, plan to have a demonstration outside Tesco Quayside at 2pm on 31st of October. Shoppers will be given leaflets advising them of what Israeli products are in store. The DAWC encourage all people disgusted with the nightly reports of murder and carnage from Palestine to join them in the protest. As it is Halloween fancy dress is welcome. The protest will be colorful, vibrant and is not intended to stop shoppers but to educate, inform and allow them to shop ethically.
